Sweeping across the world with great jubilation, South Africa joins communities, families and friends, wherever they may be, for a momentous gathering to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.
The promise of renewed hope and a fresh beginning in this, the Year of the Rabbit, brings us all together in person and in spirit, to reflect on the achievements and lessons gained over the year that has passed.
Offering the possibilities of longevity, peace, and prosperity, 2023 is predicted to represent a period of hope.
This year also marks the 25 Years Anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries, China and South Africa.
Through the lens of our historic partnership and with the restored energy that the Lunar New Year brings, may we continue the ongoing, committed dialogue that has propelled our relationship forward as nations working together to address development challenges; innovate solutions; build on people-centred projects; and share the gift of goodwill to all.
The close bilateral relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa is an enduring friendship of international solidarity and cooperation that is largely driven by mutual interests for the betterment of humanity.
China is a unique exemplar of how the power of a nation’s will to improve the lives of its people, can truly transform the lived-experience of a large number of people who had suffered under circumstances of poverty. There is immense wisdom and guidance in this collective determination for the sake of humanity. May 2023 bring new possibilities for South Africa to take to heart these lessons and provide dignity for her people.
